Anyway this piece punched me in the face, threw me into a fiery santa chimney and repeatedly forced me to commit extended-rope bungee jumping off a rocky shore... that I seriously need background practice @_@ I am sorry past self for being lazy! Then again I have colors to practice and 3D effects to worry... OTL *SIIIIIIIIIIIGH*

So to cover up my skill level I made sure it had the air and atmosphere it had over there. The character pose was heavily inspired by *humon's experience in her journal. No matter what differences, we should all at least be able to greet each other without discrimination! Years back, the person I was dating at that time was awed by me saying hello to a stranger that walked by and commented "she's not even that cute!" Dude, am I secretly an alien from outer space without me knowing because I didn't know that there was such rule stating you can only greet someone who you're attracted to! I was just trying to be polite! Besides greeting someone is just manners in society; not a sign of potential flirting. Why am I randing on a contest entry?! This world is filled with mysteries...

wow, what a concept! :'D I love that! This feels like a crossover between several different countries---Japan, Italy and Greece. (Greece just occurred to me because of the mountain. XD

Anyway, really fantastic job on the buildings and boy---the coloring and perspectives are just fabulous. <3 However, because of the sharper detail in them, it makes the rest of the background look fuzzy and slightly less detailed--maybe add more highlights to the trees, clouds and mountains next time? That would be a good idea. :)

Still a great peice!

Ahhhh constructive criticism!
I could NEVER get enough of them! and impossible to thank you enough for them!!

Yeah highlights are one of my biggest fear when I color. I always put TOO much or too little and it makes my piece so "cheap" looking! But yeah I can definitely point out areas that should have some good highlights. i'll remind my self next time to include them! Hm, about the fuzziness, I thought it'll be necessary for making it out of focus to add depth. Did I do it TOO much? or just lack of contrast in colors & values?

first off you're very welcome. :) I planned to raid your gallery and continue. XD So try not to get sick of me too quickly! *shot*

Hm...well the focus I can see what you're talking about.... I see the focus on two different plains though---on the buildings and the boy.

But when 'lined up' the boy is next to the bushes in the foreground---which are blurry, but he's not--so the focus is skewed, in a way. If you were aiming for the focus that professional cameras do, I would suggest more blur in all places BUT the single focus. <XD Hope you followed that.

PLEASE do! My gallery is wiiiiiide open for yours to raid LOL!

Anyway sorry for the late reply! The whole Thanks giving thing got in my way :P
But AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH yeahhhhh now I take a closer look it makes a lot of things! Man I feel dumb now; photography is a huge hobby of mine too! I should totally know these things by heart! Then again, I may have just over analysed or under analysed when I'm actually PAINTING it. You kinda forget to stop and think about blur horizons and what not when I'm looking through the lens; I try to take the best shot as I can and thats about it...?

But thank you SO much! I'll definitely try to do a revenge pic with the corrections and all XD

Yes, there is such a rule. I saw it here somewhere...

Quite nice landscape, the faces in the mountain/background contrast well against the cheerful wave in the foreground.
