[CRAVING AND DEVOURING] You wish upon a star so bright, so magnificent and mystical, and you want it more than anything else. However, is that true? Is that really the only thing you want so bad you can go to extremes? Once the dream you wish to come true, you will be satisfied for a short while. However, once your hunger creeps back again, you will be craving for another wish. You dream to become beautiful, you dream to become smarter, you dream to own one's heart... dream on, because you would want more.
Like a spider, you try to trap every dream you can with the web of your life to satisfy your hunger for the moment. You endlessly crave for those luscious wings, but your mind will be as empty as ever before.
[LOOKING BACK] About 3 years of re-drawing the sketch and FINALLY it's finished. Took a while didn't it? I was inspired by the song "Spiders" by System of a Down (in the album System of a Down). I fell in love with the lead singer's voice, the lyrics, and the atmosphere of the song, and I tried incorporating all that into this piece. I'm actually pretty glad it waited for this long, since I think this version is hands down the best one I came up with. Other sketches showed her literally shoving those butterflies in her mouth to emphasize and exaggerate the desperate feel. This one has a calmer main focus, but I made the spider really stand out and made her drool, so she's trying to hold back her hunger. Which, people do ALL the time. Furthermore, this was supposed to be the WACOM's "dream" contest which I missed the due date of.
I need to come up with more drawings that people can feel by looking at them. It's one of my goals as an artist... MUST GO BACK TO WORK!!

Ok, of course I never really looked at this till now, and I didn't realize that this is the picture you were using on your site. xDD
Anyhow, first, DANNNGGGG, SYSTEM OF A DOWN. I feel bad that I only have like, 3 songs from them. xD;;; Anyhow, speaking of which, I think whenever someone mentions System of a Down I'm going to think of Gero-san automatically. (΄◉◞౪◟◉‵)(΄◉◞౪◟◉‵)(΄◉◞౪◟◉‵)
I'm really interested in the other versions you have though, I mean, I do loveee this, and I agree with what you said, it's calm but has an edgy undertone. But yeah, it would also be cool to see different interpretations/expressions of the lyrics. :d
Anyhow, I would like to say that I didnt' think she was "drooling" it looked more like dripping to me. 8D;; But I suppose that's because it's all black, so I was thinking it's like....butterfly juice.
Ok, I might be a little brain-dead right now, and maybe it's better to do these on Skype as usual. o3o I doubt I can come up with nice pointers. But I do find it interesting that you used butter-fly pattern lace on the spider-lady. o3o CONTRAST?!?!? XDDDD

Man you have no idea how happy it made me when his cell phone had the system of a down ringtone! Been a big fan of them and have pretty much all of their songs including Surge tankian's solos. His voice is like honey to me *__* and I know I'm reading too much into their lyrics but they give me motivations.
